Children and nature Swedish Tourist Association has made an investigation with purpose of seeing how parents with children aged between 6 and 18 see their children’s stay in nature. 804 interviews were conducted during the period 11 – 18 April. Some results in the survey: 1. 9 out of 10 parents believe that it is important for their children to come into nature regularly. 2. Half of all parents do not think their children are in the nature often enough. 3. 9 out of 10 parents believe that physical health effects are one of the main reasons why it is important for children to come out into nature. 4. 7 out of 10 parents say that other activities attract more than nature. 5. 6 out of 10 parents believe that their children would spend more time in nature if the whole family did more excursions in nature. Urban development makes people come farther and farther from nature. We build cities that are inhumane, where man and nature are not in focus, but more short-term gains and exploitation on natural resources. It is not sustainable development. Man needs to get closer to nature and feel its possibilities.
