Children and natur

Children and nature Swedish Tourist Association has made an investigation with purpose of seeing how parents with children aged between 6 and 18 see their children’s stay in nature. 804 interviews were conducted during the period 11 – 18 April. Some results in the survey: 1. 9 out of 10 parents believe that it is important for their children to come into nature regularly. 2. Half of all parents do not think their children are in the nature often enough. 3. 9 out of 10 parents believe that physical health effects are one of the main reasons why it is important for children to come out into nature. 4. 7 out of 10 parents say that other activities attract more than nature. 5. 6 out of 10 parents believe that their children would spend more time in nature if the whole family did more excursions in nature. Urban development makes people come farther and farther from nature. We build cities that are inhumane, where man and nature are not in focus, but more short-term gains and exploitation on natural resources. It is not sustainable development. Man needs to get closer to nature and feel its possibilities.

Clean drinking water

620 million children without a functional school toilet Over 900 million children have no access to both clean drinking water and toilet and the possibility to wash their hands. It makes it difficult to create a school environment where children can focus on learning, according to a report by the UN fund UNICEF and the World Health Organization WHO. According to the report, nearly a third of primary and secondary schools lack access to safe and reliable drinking water supplies, which affects almost 570 million children. A little more than a third of the schools have no functional toilets – something that affects over 620 million children. Through the UN, world leaders have signed a global pledge of the joint MDG that all children should be offered comprehensive training to 2030. But when, according to the report, there is a water shortage of half of all the world’s schools, there is a long way to go. Girls are extra hard hit. During menstruation, there are extra many who miss the school because there is no access to toilets. More than a third of all girls in South Asia miss the school during menstrual periods because they lack both toilets and sanitary pads, according to Wateraid and UNICEF. Clean drinking water for humans and for our nature. See the big picture, do not snatch away the possibilities of nature to purify water, the nature needs for clean water, it affects us people sooner or later. It is therefore a case of working priority, structured and systematically in order to have a clean natural sustainable future, a future for all our children and grandchildren and nature. Facts about drinking water Contaminated water can transmit diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio. Contaminated drinking water is estimated to cause 502 000 diarrhoea deaths every year. 2025, half of the world’s population will live in the most stressed areas. An area becomes water-stressed when the amount of good-quality waters is no longer sufficient to meet the needs of society. Globally, at least 2 billion people use a drinking water source contaminated with faeces. 2015 used 71 percent of the world’s population (5.2 billion people) a securely managed drinking water service – that is, a facility in a room that is accessible when needed and without contaminants. 844 million people lack basic drinking water services, including 159 million people who depend on surface water. The urban communities

When the urban communities spread out, when nature gives way to infrastructure, buildings and parks, we lose touch with nature and what nature has given us and gives us today. More and more kids are growing up in town without getting the opportunity to pick sticks in the woods or catch salamanders in the pond. We get a generation do not understand why swallows are taking mosquitoes or have not seen the mass of water in the creek and examine the fish and mayflies that are there, we will probably have more difficult to understand why we must preserve the living creek as we grow older , even if someone says that clean water is an ecosystem service that is worth $2 when it is tapped onto a plastic bottle. There is growing concern about the health consequences of the loss and change in biodiversity. The loss of biodiversity also means that we lose, before the discovery, many of nature’s chemicals and genes, of the kind that have already given mankind enormous health benefits. Dave Goulson “The Great Hops Trip” speaks warmly for biodiversity and rewildning of our cities.

Climate change, extreme weather, urbanization

Climate change, extreme weather, urbanization, our consumption of goods and services put together hard pressure and stress on nature’s flora & fauna as more and more gets backed for human activity. But biodiversity – nature – as well as limiting climate impact is a precondition for our survival and sustainable future. Everything is connected, so it’s important to see the entirety before the details, ie when we speak climate or actions like solar cells wind power, biodiversity, clean air and water must be there too in our planning and building a sustainable future, a future for man, wildlife and flora of our lovely planet. ”Biodiversity provides numerous ecosystem services that are crucial to human well-being at present and in the future. Climate is an integral part of ecosystem functioning and human health is impacted directly and indirectly by results of climatic conditions upon terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Marine biodiversity is affected by ocean acidification related to levels of carbon in the atmosphere. Terrestrial biodiversity is influenced by climate variability, such as extreme weather events (ie drought, flooding) that directly influence ecosystem health and the productivity and availability of ecosystem goods and services for human use. Longer term changes in climate affect the viability and health of ecosystems, influencing shifts in the distribution of plants, pathogens, animals, and even human settlements” (WHO).

Earth’s Climate System

Is the Earth System approaching a planetary threshold that could lock in a continuous rapid pathway towards much hotter conditions-Hothouse Earth??? This pathway would be propelled by strong, intrinsic, biogeophysical feedbacks, difficult to influence by human actions, a pathway that could not be reversed, steered, or substantially slowed.
